Epic Zoo Trip

I love the zoo. Especially the Minnesota Zoo because I have such a long and storied history with it! I mean every field trip to the zoo was always an adventure but 6th grade I got to go on the best trip ever! For the people that signed up we got to go to the zoo AFTER CLOSING TIME and hang out with some of the zoo peeps. I remember making t-shirts with paint and animal shaped sponges. Mine featured a dolphin and some seaweed. Then we got to SLEEP OVER at the zoo. How cool is that? The boys got to sleep down by the tropical aquarium and the girls got to sleep right in front of the dolphin tank! Sure the ground was pretty hard and most people were too excited to sleep but I still remember it being a really magical night. At 3 or 4 am they turned on the speakers that picked up the dolphin sounds so we could hear them chatting it up. Damn that was cool. I will never forget it.

So before the summer got too crazy busy on all of us we decided to go to the zoo. Well only 2 of us ended up going but it was still really really fun and I am glad we went! We grabbed sandwiches on the way up and I packed us zoo themed snack packs. (Including old school juice box, zebra cakes, animal crackers, frosted animal crackers, and goldfish- are you sensing my theme here?). It was a gorgeous day to be out and about and although the place was swarming with kids and parents it was more adorable than annoying (which surprised the heck out of me!).

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the day, you can see more over at the flickr.

I forgot Spring=Baby Animals!

Balloons

While reading my daily blogs I came across this picture and I could not take my eyes off of it! It looks like this would be one amazing birthday party but I am thinking you take this same idea and have the balloons in a more monochromatic palette and you have an amazing wedding reception. Well at least that is what I thought. I like the idea of a huge table square like this where everyone can see each other- you could even just make a gap in the tables somewhere and the cake could be in the center. I am the MOH in TWO weddings this year and while I am so happy to help them create their special days but it really makes me think of my wedding day. (Which is a complete hypothetical at this point.) I just can't help thinking of how I would do things. Does anybody else day dream about weddings that may or may not be happening in the near future?

Murder By Death

On Wednesday I got off of work early and rushed up to the cities so I could see Murder By Death! I was afraid that I wasn't going to have anyone to go with- the friend I was planning on going with realized about a week ago that this was finals week for her! But never fear for my trusty friend Sarah came to the rescue! Why I didn't think to ask her sooner I don't know but she is such an obvious choice. We are concert buddies through and through. Together we have seen Flogging Molly, Sum 41, and Apocalyptica (twice!). I am thinking there were others that I am simply blanking on at this time. We also try to go to the symphony once in awhile just to even things out! (We were 'stand partners' in orchestra in high school.)

The concert was amazing. I had only seen Murder By Death once before on accident about 5 years ago when I saw them opening for The Hush Sound. I have been hooked ever since. One of my best friends Britt is really into them as well. Sadly she lives in Colorado but she got to see them there about a month ago and she told me all about it! I had never been to the Triple Rock before but it was really cool and of course the band rocked it! I love when bands play a good mix of their new stuff along with everyone's old favorites.

The only negative of the concert? Two super obnoxious drunk girls. Sure I like to get my drink on now and then but I went to the concert to SEE the CONCERT not to hop around like a crazy person, yelling stupid things, and running into people (mostly me). Why is it every time I go to a concert I run into someone that I want to punch in the face? (It has happened at Marilyn Manson and most recently Doomtree) Well I didn't punch this girl but I really wanted to. I did give her the elbow a couple of times and at one point just took my hand and pushed her as far away from me as possible at which point she turned around and gave me this look and said "WHAAAT?!?!?!?!" and I told her matter of factly that she should "Stop f*ing running into me." She wandered off soon after that to annoy others. Grrr. There is always one.

Thrifting

I do heart me some thrift stores! Sometimes I go a quite a while without visiting one and then I just get the urge. I have gotten way better with impulse control so I don't go too crazy anymore.

I found these two train cases for $4 a piece! They are by no means perfect but with a little TLC they will be good as new. Well new-vintage. Something like that. Just go with it!

The blue one is exactly like one my mom has. The brown one seems a bit older but has lots of character which I love.

Have you made any great thrift store finds lately?

1. What are you most excited for RIGHT NOW?

The 'Murder by Death' concert next Wednesday in Minneapolis! It is going to be insane.

2. Who is your style icon? What inspires your look?

I am really trying to figure out my look- but people who inspire me include Dita Von Teese, Auntie Mame, old movie stars, etc.

3. If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would you invite?

Vincent Price, Alfred Hitchcock, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney. Dinner would probably have to be in a haunted mansion.

4. What did you dress up as for your first Halloween?

I love Halloween so much! The first Halloween I remember dressing up for my dad was the Cat in the Hat and I was 'Thing One' and 'Thing Two'. I was an only child at that point and so they just attached a circle that said 'Thing Two' to the back of my costume. It was pretty adorable.

5. What are you improving?

Stress management. I have a stressful job and I have trouble letting go of little things that annoy me- but I am trying!

Edwina, Gertrude, and Agatha

In the shop now are a few more necklaces. At this point I have 3 rough 'styles' which are more or less the same every time I make them. Instead of a different name each time I make a piece I have decided to just name the styles making it easier to identify the different types.

First off... Edwina

The Edwina is like the Rainy Day necklace it involves small loops of crochet and then larger loops that are woven with the others giving this piece a very bold and dynamic look.

Gertrude

The Gertrude is a little less complicated than the Edwina but it has all the boldness. This is a bib style necklace that is going to be making a statement.

Agatha

Agatha is sweet and simple. She is a charming smaller necklace that is flirty and girly without being overwhelming.

Can you tell I like little old lady names? Because I do. A lot.
