For the love of reading

I don't normally do linky posts. I love bloggers who do though- they give me a chance to find little secret gardens on the internet that I normally would never have stumbled upon.  I don't often share them because I believe that most people will have already seen the coolest things before they stumble on this little corner of the internets, but this link I just had to share.

Click and enjoy.
Then grab a book.

Cheers!

Thrifting!

The other day I went on a thrifting binge. I hit almost every thrift store in town and walked away with some amazing deals. I was on the hunt for something specific- which can often backfire when you are thrifting but I had quite the success! The items I were on the hunt for are for a birthday present for later this week though so for right now we are going to focus on all the other wonderful goodies I picked up!

First of all some epic vintage roller skates! At $4 I couldn't pass them up. I used some white ribbon and have hung them from my shelf!

I found this really pretty Scotland Tea towel and a couple of vintage ladies scarves at the cheapest thrift store in town. Their turn around isn't very good but sometimes you get little lovelies like this. All together the three items were 60 cents! That's how I like my thrift stores. Nice and cheap.
I also felt like I scored a pretty sweet deal at the goodwill with these fish plates. At 99 cents each my set of four was well worth it. The lady at the counter was all "What are you going to do with these?" And of course without missing a beat I told her: "I am hosting a fishing and camping themed bridal shower next weekend and these are going to be PERFECT." Hahah. Don't judge lady, there is method to my madness. Besides who doesn't just want fish plates!!!
I was also on a secret hunt for a mini washboard. And I found one! It was a secret hunt because I was sure that I wouldn't find it and would just be disappointed, but lo and behold there one was... hidden in a little bag of clutter. I scooped that right up. I was hoping to make a necklace out of it in time for the concert on Friday but it didn't happen. Next time!!!

I also had to include this little lovely. I actually found it a couple of weeks ago in a thrift store up in the cities. I have been searching for the perfect vintage egg plate for quite some time and I think this may be it. With space for deviled eggs AND other little snacks this relish plate is my new dream come true. It was also only $5. Win!

I hope all of your recent thrifting, garage sale-ing, shopping excursions have been fruitful as well,

cheers!

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

Yep, I am going to continue to gush about these guys because I love them so hard. Last night they played the Hambone Music Festival at the History Center!!! They rocked it as per usual. I went with a great little group of people but was sad that my roommate had to miss it. How many times do you get to see one of your favorite bands in your own home town for only ten bucks! Crazy!!!!

It also renewed my want to play the washboard. I also think I might look for some red cowboy boots...

Cheers!

Long time no blog

Wow. This last month or so has just FLOWN by! I hope everyone else is having a good start to their summer. Work is kind of crazy but I am finally being trained in as a cake decorator, which I think could be super cool but I am still not sure if it is the path for me!

Already this summer has been filled with good friends, good food, and GREAT music! Also this year I get to throw in some great Roller DERBY!!!! I can not express how much I love all my derby gals. It is like getting presented with the coolest group of friends that you never would have met otherwise. One of my favorite new derby girls is actually leaving us forever soon : ( it will be a hard loss!

I counted the last day of May as the official start to the 'Summer of Awesome: 2012'. My roommate/best-ie and I went to Flogging Molly in Minneapolis! Their opening band? REVEREND PEYTON'S BIG DAMN BAND!!!!! I have loved them for awhile now and this was my first opportunity to see them live. They were so good! Afterwards I got a signed poster, bought a t-shirt and took a picture with the band. Washboard Breezy is my hero and I am seriously considering getting a tattoo of a flaming washboard!

Even better? They are coming to my hometown this FRIDAY!!! I am one lucky little duckling.

Me. Just hanging with the band.

So yeah. More to come. Lots of baking, crafts, music, and derby for the summer. Catch you later!

Art In Bloom

This last weekend a small group of us headed up to the cities to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for their annual exhibit 'Art in Bloom'. Basically local artists/ floral shops create floral arrangements inspired by works of art and then they are displayed right next to the art. There were well over 100 arrangements throughout the museum and it made for a lovely day. I love museums so much. It was a bit busier than I like but it was a Saturday and the event was free. Yay art! Since the floral pieces were all over the museum the entire collection was available for our perusal. Some of the arrangements were really literal interpretations and others just looked like a vase of flowers next to art.

I got distracted by these amazing necklaces! The one below is made of super fine braids of human hair. Woah.

A lovely day. Finally got my culture quota filled.

Cheers!

Nerd Craft.

I have had these pencil topper ideas in my head for months now. At work we are constantly loosing pens and once in a great while someone gets some sad looking fake flowers to tape to them so as to not have them wander off. I decided that with a bit of felt and glue I could make some of our signature desserts into a cuter version. I am such a nerd.

But they have been a big hit. Here we have Cherry Pie, Carrot cake, and our signature Chocolate sundae cake.

Until next time,

Nerd out.

Happy May!

Happy May everyone! Wow the time seems to be flying by. This week along is going to be busy what with The Avengers being released this Friday, which also happens to be Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you...hahahahahahaha). Then Saturday is Cinco de Mayo and I have a shin dig that evening. Today though I am sharing some new RubyMarilyn Etsy Shop items that I finally got listed!

New earrings! Hand crocheted with silver chains and just a bit of lace.
What I am calling my 'Heirloom' necklace. It is an epic 74" long vintage faux pearl necklace that I crocheted onto. Looped it looks all sorts of lovely.
Finally decided to list my Granny Punk necklace. It is the perfect mix of old lady awesomeness and irreverent charm.

Cheers!
